Default I haven't seen the Cayenne lighting, but compared to my A8 the Q5 is much more basic

The Q5 is fine for general lighting, but my reaction is it's nothing extraordinary by Audi standards. Realistically though, since it comes from the A5/A4 parts bin but likewise prices lower, it doesn't surprise me. My 2000 A6 4.2 has similar lighting around the cabin. It is better though than various other makes I have owned. The 2006 A8 has much fancier stuff in terms of door panel lighting and other things. The newer D4 A8 is yet more over the top, to where some reviews critiqued it as almost a caricature. I would put a Cayenne design more with an A6 or A8 than an A4, and the pricing of course reflects that too.

In any case, the various interior lighting sources beyond the basic overhead general lighting relate to the ambient lighting setting the OP is mentioning; apparently on the Q5 it comes down to just the footwell lighting. Having that as one of the controllable sources on my A8, it is indeed nice. The front feels warmer, and because it is low down out of normal driver focus at night, it doesn't seem to affect night vision like stuff higher up does (other elements of the fancier A8 settings). It would be nice if it can be figured out reliably as a VAG COM mod on the Q5; it is MMI controllable on my A8, but again with more background light sources to start with. On the newer A8 it is also color controllable, as it is in a much more basic way on Mini's.

I have now switched 3 things:

Enable Ambient Interior Lighting Control
[Hidden menu] [car] [carmenuoperation] [interior light] Set to 5
[Hidden menu] [car] [cardevicelist] [interior light] Enable
[Hidden menu] [car] [carbusassignment] [interior light] Set to CAN Komfort (for 2013-2014)
Reset MMI

I see "Interior Lights" in the Car Systems menu, but it is grey'd out so I can not select it.

What am I missing?

PS - how are you doing screen captures of the MMI? I've seen these elsewhere and wondered the same:
I did not tried to model MY2014
Here shows that it is possible

QUOTE=Kaitlyn2004;24500756]Sorry to hijack, but how is the Q5 interior at night? My mom's cayenne has a nice LED lighting package that you don't feel like you're getting into a dark dark car. Is the Q5 nicely lit? I can't seem to find any pictures of the interior lighting...[/QUOTE]

Exactly thus, do not forget A8 is a top model in the Audi.
The same relationship goes for other models of premium class: the BMW 3 Series and 7 Series, Mercedes C-class and S-class

I'm having the same issue after following the instructions in my 2014 SQ5.

The menu item shows up, but it's greyed out:

I guess it's not meant to be.

Oh wait, do we also need to do the following? That wasn't in the other pages I don't think:

  1. Select STG 5F (infotainment)
  2. Adjustment 10
  3. Channel number 06 to 1.

You need VCDS in order to enable Ambiance Lighting.

Thanks, that AZ thread didn't include that. The Audienthusiasts one does...

http://www.audienthusiasts.com/VagComINLight.html

Step One: Enable Ambiance Lighting.
[09 – Cent. Elect.]
[Coding - 07] -> Long Coding Helper -> Byte 16 Bit 6 - Set this bit manually to “1” - (1 = active)

This further emphasizes we need a Q5-specific thread on VAGCOM mods. I guess I volunteered to create it, so I will... one of these days...

A tutorial/wiki page for the Q5 specific VCDs mods would be great. I can contribute to it once I get my hands on the cable.(within the next 2 weeks)
