does anyone with a 2016 Q5 know if Android auto is supported?

on the Audi site, i see this video for the Q7, but none is listed for the Q5

No Android Auto in my '15 and the '16 is supposed to be the same MMI.

My son's Golf has Android Auto and I love it..... My next car must have it.

if so what does it do other than charge the phone?

No. I dont have it. I believe it is to allow the music files to be played or loaded into the jukebox.

The cable shown is one of the AMI options for playing music from portable devices with a mini (or micro, I can't tell which from the picture) USB connector. There is another AMI cable available with the standard USB connector as well. It can be used with portable hard drives or any smart phone and will play music files through the MMI.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are expected to start appearing in select Audi models next year,

It allows you to connect external storage device (a drive or smartphone which is visible as external storage) so that you can play files from it.

It does not have anything to do with Android Auto.
