Since we have bad weather and our cars are running dirty (at least mine is) I wonder if road grime is a factor?

Not for sure. Mine has never been dirty yet. I have the entire rear bumper done with clear bra. I have only had it happen once. I wondering if it is rocks or road depris being kicked up and the sensor picking it up.

Road grime souds plausible. I have noticed on bridges, when the cement walls are closer maybe than usual, mine go off.

No issues here, 2.5 months, side assist is one of the best bang for your buck features that I'm glad I had on my must-have list

On my A8, I get false positives on the passenger side on concrete (as opposed to asphalt) highways at 60+ MPH. It's really weird. Don't know what the radar is seeing, but it's not there.

Totally agree. Probably one of my favourite safety features. Works well & not intrusive. Only problem I've noticed is turning on double turning lanes. Manageable.
