I was thinking of turning this into an iPhone 5 holder/charger. Similar thoughts anyone?

Right now I've got a phone holder on a flex stalk, attached by suction cup just outboard of that spot. Of course that intrudes on passenger kneespace.

So my own plans are to remove the coin tray and install some type of mounting base (hello 3D printer?) in there, for a phone stalk. Making it powered, adding a charging line, all easy once the access is open.

I guess in AudiLand the lowlife don't smash your window to steal any coins they see. Here in the Colonies...one doesn't leave coins out in sight, unless one plans to lose them. And the window.

Please re-post your success, or lack there of, Redd. I've ordered an extra coin tray myself ($20 w/shipping) and am planning to play around with it.

marc-
I popped the leather boot, and it is very snug on my fingers trying to reach under the coin tray. Which I tried to wiggle around with a spudge. I didn't feel any movement underneath it, and I suspect the coin tray is sitting in a plastic "surround" the same way that the ash tray liner sits in a surround.
Didn't have time to see how far that could be pushed without breaking it but I suspect your spare will show us where the release tabs are.

I actually thought the coin tray was the small area just in front of the arm rest.

Update: It only holds six quarters and they rattle.
I use the gold dollar coins, and they hold them perfectly. There is even a little pinch when you put them in. and no rattles.

Great! Now if they would just install parking meters and car washes that take those, we'd be all set.
