Default Rear Legroom Question

Pulling the specs:
A4: 35.2"
A6: 36.9"
Q7: 37.1"
Q5: 37.4"

Yet, I read that folks say the A6 and Q7 have more room than the Q5...

How is rear legroom measured? I read that it's the distance from the lower part of the back seat to the floor when the seat in front of it is at the 40" legroom mark. Is that correct? If that's the case, how subjective is the legroom measurement? Seems like there's a lot of apples to oranges going on, especially between different brands.

I am trying to determine the "knee to tailbone" distance to know how tall a person can be fitting behind me and also how much distance a carseat will have.

Thanks!

The difference might be that the rear seats on the Q5 are adjustable forward and backwards.

Can someone do me a huge favor?

Can you move your driver's seat all the way back, slide your rear bench all the way back, and measure the distance from the back/bottom of the rear seat to the back of the driver's seat?

I really want to know how much room that gives a forward-facing carseat.

Thank you!

I don't know how the measurements are calculated, but subjectively there is a lot more room in the Q7.

I was looking at both the Q5 and 7 and ended up buying the 7, one of the reasons was rear seat as well as cargo room.

My methodology for both cars was to get in and adjust the drivers seat to my driving position, (I'm 5ft 11)and then get in the back seat. There was at least 2-3 inches more space in the 7 when I did this.

I test drove the Q5 a while ago and made lots of mental notes. I took a look at the back seat with the driver's seat where it was (I'm 6'4") and it *looked* ok. I know it isn't as roomy as the Q7, but the Q7 won't fit in my townhome's garage due to overall length. Ok, it will fit, but with two inches to spare on both ends. That's why I'm looking at the Q5. I just want to do a relative comparison to my Civic where I do the same measurement. If the Q5 is any longer, it'll work.

Thanks

The Q7 has more 2nd row leg room until the third row seat is being used. You'll have to provide some leg room for the third row kids so the 2nd row has to move forward, at that point the rear leg room is about the same as the Q5. Depending on how far back the front seats of the Q7 are adjusted. And how far back the Q5 rear seats are adjusted.
