for a Q5 backup camera check out Emerald
AUDI Q5 OEM Backup Camera System
It says they are OEM and installation does not void the warranty.
We ordered a 2015 Q5 but didn't want to pay more than $3500 US for nav system with backup camera, so this will be a nice option.

The LED Daytime Running lights aren't absurdly expensive. The LED's have a very low chance of failing (Which if they did the whole housing would need to be changed). What goes 99% of the time (out of the very very few that fail) is the module which i can't see being more than a $400 part (don't have time to look up the actual price right now). It is a fairly easy change - undo 3 bolts and pull out the headlight, change the module and put it back in.

I believe in the US it may be possible to turn them off (One of our US members would have to confirm this) by turning the switch to off. In Canada however since DRL is Mandatory, you cannot turn them off. I don't see why you would want to turn them off anyway, they look good when they are on. I also have no idea why people don't just leave their light switch on Auto...I see brand new cars all the time in the middle of the night with no taillights.

On Canadian cars you can turn off the DRLS with VAG-COM...but I don't see why one would bother. Also with VAG-COM one can turn on the tail lights when the DRLS are on...which of course has the effect that the tails are on all the time.
( The Canadian legislation for DRLs allowed them to be only at the front which imho was a mistake. As Telate says below...the number of cars, usually Hondas, seen at night with no tail lights. This is because some Hondas use the headlights for DRLs and illuminate the instruments all the time so a dumb driver will have no warning that the tail lights are not on at night. Using headlights on dimmed main beam was requested or demanded by the Detroit manufacturers who wanted the cheapest possible implementation.)

Turning DRLs off imo is dumb. Why would you want to decrease your visibility to other cars on the road? It ups the chance that someone won't see you in time and get into an accident with you. Actually most of the cars I've seen without headlights are Toyota or Honda equally. I see a ton of taxi cabs that drive around with no lights (really? they should be better than an average driver). I'm in the belief that manufactures should just do away with the headlight switch all together and have them on all the time. The only control you are given for headlights is highbeams. I have many nights I'll see at least 10 cars driving around with their lights turned off.

The control module is only around $280-360 depending on which one you have.

Agree completely. I live in a suburban area with lots of 2- and 4-way stoplights. Traffic is generally light and before I got my Q5, there were literally dozens of times when a car would dart out in front of me, barely stopping at the sign. Now they see the DRLs and wait for me to pass. MUCH safer.

so we ended up getting a cpo 2012 q5 with 34k miles for $33800...has nav and bang radio and the 19 in wheel...they did the 35k maintenance already

seems like decent deal

what should I look for when picking it up? i.e. standard stuff that should be there (toolkit? roofrails?)

thanks!
