Q5 MMI Outdated
Ok,
So I know it's a marketing ploy by Audi to offer "exclusive" features in certain models , such climate control cup holders, exclusive to the Q5 line.
And then there's the the virtual cockpit in the new TT :
However, I wish they'd updated the "old style" MMI in the Q5 which looks like this :
And swap it for the A3 touch MMI which looks like this:
I just love the touch in the A3 and think that the joystick wheel is a step back in the Q5.

They should make a complete new center console
Then it should do the same in A4 and A5

I would gladly pay money for the virtual display shown. Provided that it works reliably at -30 Celsius.
But if I had a minor gripe with the current MMI it is that the media connector is a) in the glove compartment not in the central console somewhere or even replacing one of the SD card slots.
b) isn't a standard USB ( ideally with the higher power availability to charge an Ipad)
and c) that there are not two USB ports.
Oh well....next time.

It's actually not impossible for them to do this (we're talking about German engineering here). Audi themselves say that they'll release exclusive features in certain models to make them "more attractive".

And of course the "touch" MMI refers to the touchpad control and not an actual touchscreen, so if you liked directly touching the map, buttons, etc., then you still wouldn't get that here. But it should be more intuitive than the joystick, and adds handwriting recognition (not sure how "useful" that is in practice), not sure what else.
EDIT - The one nice thing about the Honda nav was that it was standard yearly DVD-based updates so you could update the nav (or not) each year instead of effectively never. That still seems pretty silly.
