The oem wheels are not anything special to look at so you have to make a choice you can live with.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm going in tomorrow to speak with my dealer, at this stage I'm leaning towards dropping the pano roof for the 21" wheels but I will have a good long think between now and then and keep reporting back here for your opinions Decisions decisions
Cheers.

Something to think about:

The 21" OE wheels can be added later - either through the replica route, or
actual OE wheels from a motivated seller/wrecker.

The pano roof can NEVER be added later.

To me, it sounds like you like the idea of the pano roof + the 21" OE wheels, but can't justify the initial upfront cost of both.
If I were you, I'd go pano and consider the wheels later.... at least you'll have the option to.

From an engineering standpoint, the pano roof makes the car heavier with the weight up high, structurally less stiff, less headroom, more complicated and much more fragile. Never heard of a steel roof shattering or getting stuck open. It is a cool option but not for me. I get enough motoring in the wind with the wife's cab, the motorcycle or race boat.

Presently, no one makes replica of this wheel and buying second hand for a decent price will be tough as there are not that many SQ5's out there. While I agree it's easier to swap wheels than to retrofit pano roof, wheels make the car, and IMO these are one of the best looking OEM wheels Audi has produced. OP is spending pretty penny for the car, I'd say spend a little extra and get both options. Regrets can be costly.

Are you in an area of Australia that gets snow? If so, I'd opt for the roof since you are likely to have different rims on the car during the winter. If you are not ever going to put snow tires on the car and the sun is always going to beating down on the roof then maybe the pano can be the one that gets axed.

I'd actually pay extra for sunroof delete. Extra road noise, potential for leaks, glass breakage, sunsoaked heat, additional hardware to break, and 100 pounds of dead weight in precisely the worst location on the car, i.e., way up high.
