My car is a 10/2013 build date SQ5 and I'm wondering if it came already with the update, is the "older" system, or if it even applies to the SQ5. My steering is pretty light, especially at low speeds but then firms up at increasing speeds. At no point is it very heavy or tactile but it's decent.

I'd say it is pretty reasonable. My SQ5 is having the update applied today. I liked the steering before, if they have broken there will be some significant compensation coming my way that's for sure!

The 48K8 electric update applies to every Audi built with electric steering (I was told 168K vehicles worldwide) unless the software was already applied at the factory. Your dealer should be able to check your VIN and see if the update is eligible for your SQ5. If so, you can decline it if desired.

Not really considering the entry price of the car! If Audi is going to change the dynamics of how the car feels without proper disclosure first, then I have a big issue with them. The fact that the update cannot be reversed is very upsetting to someone who drives the car with the steering set to dynamic. My steering was fine prior to the update, now it seems light and disconnected. Considering that I use the steering wheel everytime I drive the car, I do not think that my demands are excessive.

Just had my 8k kms service done on my July build SQ5 that according to the SM, didn't need any updates.

I keep my steering at dynamic and have always been reasonably happy with it.

So driven mine a bit since getting it back avec update on Sunday.

I immediately noticed while still stationary that it felt heavy - they had left it in dynamic. I changed to Auto and immediately noticed it was much lighter whilst stationary than before the update which is good for parking manoeuvring.

On the move it feels much tighter in general - much more direct than before. I've only really driven it in Auto, but Dynamic is still noticeably weightier so no worries there.

So overall I'm quite happy, I wasn't dissatisfied with the steering before, but I would say this is an improvement for sure.
