Default 10k miles interval between oil change?

Well just got my 5k oil change done yesterday, wasn't aware until the advisor told me the next oil change is at 15k. Didn't pay much attention until I realized that's a 10k interval between change.

Maybe I'm not used to such a fancy car but, isn't 10k miles between oil change is a bit, long over due? Given that I will drove 10k before 365 days but, I'm still not used to have my car's oil changed every 10k miles.

Should I still ask them to change it every 5k or just, go with the flow till it hits the magical 10k interval but add 10-30 full syn. oil when it needs a top-off?

It's kind of bothering me now to be honest, like I said I still wrap my head around having my car's oil changed every 10k miles interval.

Also which full syn. oil do you suggest for top offs? Thanks ppl!

Yeah, the 10k interval in the turbo 4 cyl engine makes me a bit nervous too given its history.

I'm due for my 5k service this week. My next change is going to be in 6500 miles at which time I'll do a UOA to see how things look.

The dealer is probably using Castrol 5W40 (502.00) or M1 0W40 (502.00). You could always ask them what they are using...sometimes they know.

Enjoy.

I did go 10k miles between oil changes - the 15k was a couple months ago. But to be sure going forward, I got the test kit from Blackstone Labs (www.blackstone-labs.com) and will send them the oil for analysis once I hit the 7500 mark. If that looks good, I will indeed wait for the 10k and probably send a sample of that as well. This way you know how the oil is doing based on your driving.

There are COUNTLESS threads on this for the 2.0T.
Personally I dont agree with the 10k and DIY every 4-5k on both our 2.0T's.

stevedusa, I am sure the dealer will be happy to change your every 5000 miles You sound like you are really bother by this extended oil change interval, this must be your first car that recommands a 10K mile oil change. Many luxury cars are doing it now, BMW, MB, and even Lexus just change to 10K miles change interval. If it bothers you that much, meet the factory recommandation in the middle and change the oil every 7500 miles. I change my oil every 8000 miles because I only do 8000 miles a year.

Thanks guys for all the information. Yes indeed this is my FIRST luxury vehicle and I'm just so used to have them oil changed at 3k.

I think I will do a 5k change, just to be safe. I don't want to take too much chances, even though the manufacturer said I don't need to.

If your car starts consuming oil, as many 2.0T's do, you may only need to add oil once in a while.

But don't use a 10W-30 to top up with. Look for Castrol Syntec 5W-40, Syntec 0W-30, or any oil that meets the VW 502.00 spec. IIRC, there aren't any 10W-30's that meet this spec.

Got a follow up phone call from Audi today, asking how is the car doing.

I asked the service adviser and he said honestly he'd suggest a in-the-middle change (at 5k interval) and use good oil (full syn.).

Guess that's what I'll be doing.

That's why I think sending an oil sample to the lab is the way to go. We're used to more frequent intervals, but the oil analysis will tell you with hard data how your oil is doing. My 04 Acura recommended 10k intervals as well. As someone mentioned, what I did was do 7.5k. Never had the oil analyzed, but will do so for the Q5.
