Technology package is not available on the premium. This means you’ll miss out on
Sonos sound system
navigation (limited value to some)
12.3” screen virtual cockpit plus
wireless Apple and android
traffic sign recognition

This package accounts for a good part of the price difference. I guess like any other trim differences of any car, it’s an assessment of what is important and the value of these features

Exactly. To each his/her own according to what they value. I'm all for having options! But for us, the few things that come with upgrading a trim level & tech package wasn't worth the $5,000 up-charge. FWIW, I just 'upgraded' my wife's non-wireless AppleCarplay to wireless AppleCarplay with a literal press & swipe of the option via COTS software I've had for years now. We'd rather keep the $5k in our pocket when all we really wanted the worst out of it all was wireless CarPlay.

horsepower and torque along with fuel economy. You can google the specifics as I don’t know from memory but it’s significant.

Yes big difference.

40 TFSI (184 horsepower, 221 lb-ft of torque)

45 TFSI (228 hp, 251 lb-ft).

The current 45 engine was the Mk VII GTI engine (pretty respectable unit)

If you are questioning the need then you don’t need it. 😂

Sounds like you're not a car enthusiast & the need you have for a Q3 = doesn't matter which engine you get. If you really don't ever drive outside of the city & never drive beyond the speed limit then save the money & get the 40 vs the 45. Your need would likely be one of the very few set of factors I'd recommend a 40 for someone but your need says you'd be fine with a 40.
