Crudola.. Discovered that the upper transmission line into the radiator is leaking slightly...

not sure about the lower one.. I was worried about these when I changed the radiator, I re-used the O-rings, which in retrospect, I suppose I should not have.. Luckily, it's easy to get at them without too much effort..

Question I have for myself and others.. anyone else installed a new rad, and not have problems with the automatic trans lines? it was a bitch getting them in, they're really tight..

You need lube before putting it in there - it's really tight.

Wow that sounded bad huh??!! ;-P

The TRANSMISSION LINES need a little good lube on the o-rings so they can slide in there, if you go dry it will go hard and she'll often have seepage after since it can score the o-rings.

Our old 1993 had a chronic leak there. I probably replaced those o-rings 5 times.

It would be good for a few months, then start leaking again. Eventually I got tired of it and installed a separate cooler.

*unzips pants*... tell me more about what you want to lube and put in

That's what I'm afraid of, and I had the same thought as a solution....

Kris Hansen 09-01-2008 03:43 AM

I used a little Vaseline...

I have not looked at it yet, I wonder if the bolt loosened up.. *wishful thinking.. *

Upon further inspection, the top O-ring is damaged, not sure about the bottom..

I have not pulled it out yet, knowing that I need at least the upper, I'll go pick up a few of them, and then replace the lower regardless...

OEM is teh best.

In all seriousness, buy the new o-rings from Audi. They are much harder than standard o-rings.

So what do you suggest till I can get them? Put it back together with the damaged ones?

I noticed that these o-rings do seem really firm, and was wondering about the chances of getting similar ones.. Most O-rings tend to be really soft..

Yah when I replaced my radiator, . . .

It seemed like it had to be in the exact position and took forever to get them just fitting correctly. Then after that it was just as hard to keep it in-line and bolt them in. It was probably the hardest thing out of the whole job of replacing my radiator, fan, tran. fluid and everything else you have to do.
