95-96 AUDI A6 Keyless entry remote program

I just changed the battery on my remote and then I found out the remote has to be re-programed.

I found something on ebay and this is exactly what I need (please visit the link below). Anyone has the programming instruction and be kind enough to share it?

Thanks,

Re: 95-96 AUDI A6 Keyless entry remote program

This method always works on my 96 A6. It loses memory at least once every three months.

*Copied from Tech Section*

1. Put 1 key in the ignition and turn it on. (Don't start the car, just turn it on until the dash lights up.
2. Roll down driver's side window. (You don't really have to do this, but I'd hate to lock my key in the car)
3. Take the second key and lock the car using the drivers door.
4. Hold BOTH buttons on the remote until the turn signals flash and the door unlocks. It should take about 5 seconds or less. Bingo!

To program a second remote, open the door, turn the ignition off and back on, lock the door and hold both buttons on the second remote until the lights flash and the door unlocks.

Re: 95-96 AUDI A6 Keyless entry remote program

Thanks a lot.

I need to visit the dealership and cut a second key first. When I purchased the A6, the used car dealer had one key only.

I opened the master key yesterday (the one with light) and there was no chip inside. I guess I can just go to dealer and have them cut the key for $50 and save the $75 for re-program the key (dealer said I need to re-program the key).

Don't 95 and 96 have different keyless entry systems?

I thought 95 was IR and 96 RF?
Is your remote like the one pictured in the auction, or part of the key?
Do you have a shiny black "button" at the base of the B pillar?

The IR remote system applies to 100 models, the RF remote system applies to A6 models.

i think all audis past 94 have an anti theft coding on the keys

if you go to like a lowes or something they have decoder tester in there key cutting machines

some instructions from bentley for the coding

on vehicles with remote -control central locking, every new or non-encoded remote unit must first be re-coded for the central locking control module.

- Switch ignition on; leave key in ignition.

- Mechanically lock vehicle at left front door, using second key.

- On remote unit, press "Open" button once. A short horn signal will sound.

Note:

The "Open" button is pressed once for programming the first, or a single, remote unit.

When programming additional remote units for the second, third or fourth memory addresses, press the "Open" button two, three or four times, in one-second intervals.

Example: press the "Open" button once, wait 1 second, then press once again to program the second remote unit.

- After 6 seconds, press "Open" button once to activate the coding process.

The remote unit will now be coded, and it can be used to unlock the central locking system.

- Switch ignition off.

Note:

The key must be removed from ignition before the remote unit can be used to lock the vehicle.

The coding process can be repeated up to 4 times for additional remote units. In between each remote unit coding, the ignition must be switched off.

Memory addresses, erasing

Note:

It is possible to erase the memory, e.g. if the customer has lost a remote unit. Proceed as follows.

- Switch ignition on with key.

- Mechanically lock vehicle at left front door, using second key.

- On remote unit, press "Open" button 5 times in one-second intervals. A short horn signal will sound.

- Then after 6 seconds, press "Open" button once to activate memory erasing process.

Memory is now erased, and the central locking system can no longer be operated by the remote unit.

- Switch ignition off.

As many as 4 new remote units can now be coded Page 01-85 .

Interesting, because the 1995 S6 models have IR.

RF did not come out until 1995.5 (1996 in other countries).

I guess I'm still an A6 n00b - lol
