So I sat in another Mk2 TT today...
I visited the Stockholm Audi Forum today here in Sweden... They had a Red 2.0T Manual. It was nice to sit in it with no one around (unlike the first time at New York). It's growing on me more and more. So I did more of an inspection to see how much of the interior was actual Aluminum look. I circled all the pieces that are plastic... All others are real aluminum. I didn't take much pictures... only because I only took a ton at the New York show. I did manage to snag two full TT brochures!!! As always... way better than the US catalogs. This TT was display only as none are yet on the streets here for the public.

Thanks very much. Is growing on me, too. I love the top-stitching on all the leather. The gauge pod
... is awesome. I hate the idea of plastic-metal, but whatever.
|
No problem, I requested a S-line TT catalog... they weren't available until next month... Oh well.
|
Nice shots, thanks. Looks pretty good to me!!
|
Thanks.

New TT is great... in person it looks even better than on pictures..

ugh! why so much plastic?
how was the rest of the interior? did you enjoy the seating position?
|
If you think that the current TT is not mostly plastic, you're kidding yourself.
Sure it has a few nice solid aluminium pieces, but other than that that, it's a plastic cockpit.
Personally I'd prefer an all leather interior as like Porsche, but that would make a TT very cost prohibitive... and then I'd just get a Porsche. ;) |
but the current plastic isn't immitating anything else...
it's not trying to look like it's not plastic. i agree, the current interior is very much plastic, but it's not trying to fool me.
i also had higher hopes that the new generation would be more about quality aesthetics- but i guess that's not the case. would it really have cost THAT much for them to add real aluminum? |
Yes, it costs a lot, even to a manufacturer, for those nice aluminum pieces.
Not making excuses for Audi, but I'd prefer that they put that money into performance over looks which is exactly what they seem to have done with the Mk II and that's been the single largest complaint about the Mk I. We'll now have an excellent platform to make this a true sports car and I'm sure that there will be an aftermarket niche for updating the aesthetics.
But no worries, we'll still have the Mk I as well and it's a one-of-a-kind. But we all knew that anyway. ;) |
