At last, Stage 3 is complete!

This time last year my turbos blew at 120k miles and I bit the bullet and went for k04s. I tried to be somewhat responsible with my finances and went stage 3- for a year, a very long year but worth the wait. In hindsight I should have done everything last year and put it on my credit card. The car had more pep, but was unrefined and just didn't feel right. Hesitation, lag, uneven power. Now that is all behind me thanks to JH Motorsports in Lathrop, CA. They installed the fueling kit and did a custom tune for me. The car wasn't quite done around dinner time when I walked back to the shop so one of the guys drove me to get something to eat, it was a small gesture but that is what defines great customer service! They also fixed a notchy reverse gear free of charge for the delay.

They installed a manual boost controller under the dash, set to 21psi stock but adjustable as high as 30psi I am told. I dialed it up to 25psi for the ride home and was extremely pleased. Holy **** this car is fun to drive on the highway. I had to get off at a few random exits to accelerate back onto the highway again :). The power delivery is maintained through gear shifts, as the tune holds the throttle for a split second when the gas pedal is lifted. 1st gear hits redline VERY easily, 2nd doesn't last much longer. I got home and took my wife for a spin around the block expecting her to impress her with the speed, although she drives the car daily and can row the 6spd quite well, she was more excited about the reverse gear being fixed!

With our first baby on the way, I'm selling my motorcycle and buying my wife an Imola B8 S4 s-tronic, easy to put in reverse and I get to have "Papa Smurf" replace the bike as my daily driver. Looking forward to the commute and a nice looking garage!

I love my S4.

Thanks! Here's a partial list of the mods to date:

BW K04 Turbos
RS4 Clutch
RS4 Motor Mounts
JHM Fueling / Tune (APR)
Manual Boost Controller
Center Mounted Boost and Air/Fuel Gauges
APR Bipipe
AWE DTS
UUC ShortShifter
UUC WM2 Catback + Piggies
Vogtland Coilovers
LLtek HID LED Headlights (these are awesome! Best $700 spent on the car)
LLtek Spoiler
RS4 Replica Rims (poor quality/finish flakes off, but cheap and I'm not as concerned about SF potholes)
Plus some other minor visual stuff

Future considerations:

Intercoolers
Bigger Downpipes
Upgraded Brakes
Interior Trim - Carbon Fiber

Aaron, I was the guy that you spoke to right before you left Royal today. Let me know if you wanna try to get that Imola S4 you drove today...

25 psi on K04's? What are your plans for after the K04's go?

iNfiNkC 04-15-2012 08:40 PM

yea 25 is pretty high, what part of northern ca are you at? should come up to sac and see how it hangs with my stg3

This is about where K04's would be on their compressor map at 25 psi.

The data I'm plotting is from the F4H that I now have and this is where that 25 psi plots out on the F4H map. The boost is around 24.5 psi at the uppermost end.
