Error code P0411 secondary injection flow low

I have a 2002 A4, with 62K miles. recently i started getting a CEL with error code P0411. I reset the error code a couple of times hoping it was false trigger but it keeps coming back.
Any suggestion what I can do to fix the problem (other than taking the car to the dealer).
people suggested checking for cracked hoses that come off the air pump. The problem is I donlt knwo where the air pump is :)
Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

I got the same thing recently, and the code came back this morning.

I thought the hoses for this at approx 11 O'clock as you are standing in front of the car looking down at the engine, but I'm going to check my Bentley this weekend to find out for sure.

forgot to mention a weird noise every time I start the car

I forgot to mention that recently, every time i start the car it makes a weird noise. It sounds like a motor that is trying to open or close a valve or something. Can it be the air pump failing?

A few things to check in the morning (cold engine)

Listen for the secondary blower to run (100 seconds after engine start-up). This sends air to the cyl head via the EGR valve. Make sure the vac hose going to the EGR valve is intact. Make sure all the plumbing for the secondary air pump is in order.

Possible problems include a plugged up EGR (combi-valve) valve, a bad secondary air pump, blown secondary pump fuse.

Let me know. Have a great weekend.

Re: A few things to check in the morning (cold engine)

Because I am new to this, can you give me an idea where the secondary air pump is located?
once I find that I can trace all teh hoses and check for any cracks.

below the air filter box, next to the turbo/inlet hose, in front of the RF wheel

it will have two plastic hoses going to it (inlet/outlet) trace away :)

cold engine or warm/hot? Normally the secondary AP only runs on cold startup

My car has been doing that for the last 12 months or so.

I said, fvkc it, I'll fix it when it breaks.

Re: cold engine or warm/hot? Normally the secondary AP only runs on cold startup

it does it early in the mornign .. when the engine is cold from the night.
It's being making the noise for some time now. You think it's ok to wait until something breaks like Tgr_Clw did?

Tgr_Clw 08-03-2007 02:59 PM

Please don't listen to me, I'm a complete n00b when it comes to engines and moving parts.

I simply never got around to checking what that sound was and since it doesn't seem to be getting any worse, I've decided to leave it.
