front door window

Does anyone know why on a new 2014 s5 cabrio a fully opened front window goes up about an inch or two when one opens the door and then goes back to fully opened when the door is closed? This is different from a closed window opening 10 mm to clear the soft top.

I had a same question when my son and I were at the dealer to checkout the S5. He then explained that it is for use a a place to push close or pull open the door without touching the paint with bare hand which will leave finger marks on the paint. Not sure I would buy his explanation .
:-)

Thanks for the reply. I don't think I buy the protecting the paint answer either. There must be a reason Audi has incorporated this into their cars, unless it's an error.
