Unusual engine oil consumption

I got my 2.0 TFSI Q5 in February 2010. Every 1500km I was asked to add 1lt of oil. At 16.000km I asked from Audi Greece to change my engine with a new one. With a bit of legal pressure they agreed and I got my Q5 back with a new engine. My problem is that again I was asked to add a litter of oil after 1800 and 1500km!!! Now I have 20400km and soon I will have to do it again. What is wrong? Could it be they did not change the engine with a new one? Is it not an engine problem? Any ideas?

Many owners of the 2.0 TFSI report high oil consumption so the fact that the second engine is also using oil is not overly surprising.

According to my service advisor, Audi tells them it is completely normal for the 2.0T to use a quart or so of oil every 1500 miles.

It's common for a new engine to consume oil until the (nikosil?) cylinder walls and rings seat. With the RS4, it takes roughly 7500 miles. Until then, many or most reported 1qt every 1000 miles (or so). Once broken in, nobody complains anymore.

How many miles on your 2.0 motor(s)?

niktsa, What exactly did they change? The whole engine or just the block?

The first motor was changed at 16.000 Km. The new one has 4.000Km. I had added 1lt of oil for 10 times in the first and 2 times in the new engine.

Just recently Audi did a partial engine repair to our 2009 A4 2.0T due to excessive oil consumption at 24k miles. Our car was using oil at the rate of 500-600 miles per quart. As explained by our dealer, there was a bad batch of piston rings installed at the factory within a specific VIN range and our car happened to fall into that range. Of course the repair was done at no charge under warranty and after a few phone calls to Audi Customer Relations they have extended our warranty for an additional 2yrs/24k miles over and beyond the origial Audi warranty. This engine issue must be a big problem for Audi as the dealer service manager said we are the fourth car in as many weeks to have had the same engine rebuild for the same excessive oil consumption. Has anybody else experieinced this problem?

Wow, I can't believe they replaced your engine for oil consumption.

My VW 2.0T needs a quart every 1000 miles. Service advisors says that is normal for all VW and Audi 2.0Ts
