S6 Electric Cooling Fan

My 2008 S6 lately has been acting funny with the cooling fan. It turns on for no reasons at times, even when the outside temperature was -20. Somehow The battery was drained and I replaced with a new oem battery. Today was the worst, it kept running even after 3 hours sitting in the garage. Obviously the battery is dead and being charged right now. It appears when I released the electronic park8ng brake, it has not started to run again.
May I have some advices from the experts? Thanks

Guessed it wasn't the parking brake either. After 15 minutes released the park8Ng brake, thevfan started to run again. By opening the driver side door, it would stop for a couple minutes, then run again.
Finally I took her for a short drive and did not run again. Hope this temporarily stop the battery drain for now. Tomorrow is Sunday, dealer doesn't open. Any quick fixes?

Can you unplug the fan until you can get it into a shop?

I have been sitting in the garage for the last couple of hours. It was like a devil in the Engine bay, I could hear a click then she goes! Have a charger hooked up so I can get out in the morning!

Not sure but if there is a fuse then pull it. I believe there is a fuse box on each end of the dashboard and possibly another in the engine bay.

Still running every 15 minutes. No idea which fuse from the manual. Have to keep it charged and pray for Monday!

Sounds like you've been given so good ideas to disconnect, please keep us posted on what the dealer finds.

Here are instructions for disconnecting the el fan coolant temp sensor, as that is most likely what is malfunctioning.

Electrical harness connector at Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor G62, disconnecting - vehicles with 5.2l FSI engine
