3m, Llumar, Huper Optik, V-Kool....HELP! I just want to tint my windows!

so i've decided i want to get a tint for the car...there seems to be a pretty consistent recommendation for 3M and Llumar tint on the forum, but what about Huper Optik and V-Kool? I know Jyoteen had a post last week about the Huper Optik tint. how is it different from the 3M/Llumar?

i'm only looking for a light tint, nothing m4d p1mp1ng lim0-sty-0

oh, and recommendations for installers in the San Fran area (i live in SF) would be appreciated, too.

thanks!

3M/Lumar is metallic tint, Huper Optik is ceramic coated...

Metallic tint will affect radio reception and range of radar detectors. Ceramic tint will have less effect on either.

I say go for at least 35% tint. Dark enough to keep you car cool when your car is parked in the sun but not enough to hinder your vision at night.

Remember tint of the front windows is illegal in CA but asthetics-wise even a light tint looks much nicer than no tint.

Llumar tint had no affect on the radio reception in my '97 A4, YMMV.

I had great radio reception before I had metallic tint installed.

Picked up the weak stations even between the canyons. I live between Los Angeles and San Diego and was able to pick up stations from both.

Now the weak ones are gone in the canyons and have some static in the flats. Strong stations are still clear though are a bit more finicky.

I guess it really depends on your location.

V-Kool is kind of expensive, but good quality I heard, how about Solar Guard?

I'm looking for NorCal Huper installers. Will post results.

I've been exchanging voicemails with the distributor, but no answers yet.

Look at the Huper site - www.huperoptik.com - under product range, I think. There's a chart showing the spec's for the various Huper products. The interesting one to me is called Huper Sech. It's got 60% visible transmission for a light look, but total UV and high infrared rejection for keeping me and my stuff cool. I can't stand the chopped-up look a car gets from partial tinting, so I'll put this stuff alll around my car, if it's as good as it seems.

Ooooo, no front plate *and* tint all around. I'm a rebel without a clue!

yes, please do post when you find an installer. would be interested myself.

Exactly.....that's what I meant by "YMMV" = your mileage may vary.

Kent L 08-14-2001 10:56 AM

I know...

I posted my experiences for those in the So. Cal area who are thinking of getting window tint the possible effect it will have on their radio reception.

I'll live with the reduced radio reception for the cooler interior temps when I park out in the sun.

Only if I knew about this Huber Optik stuff before.
