Tire recommendations
 

I will be needing tires by winter and wondered what people are recommending
Have standard OEM 225/55/17 Allroad tires. I read good things about General Altimax amd Bridgestone Turaamza

Round ones. Seriously, they work the best. ( 2nd paulroad's request) ;-)

I just purchased a used '03 2.7T allroad, and immediately put Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires on. The car drives very smoothly and it grips the corners well.


For what my needs are in the rainy Pacific Northwest - these tires are perfect.

Those are a superb tire for that climate.

Which Turanza?
 

I'm assuming that you want an AS tire and don't live where you need winter tires. The General Altimax is a good inexpensive tire. I have a set on a spare car. But, I think an 05 allroad deserves better tires. The Turanza name by itself doesn't convey much info because there are several with that name. The Turanza Serenity is a good all season tire with the proper load rating.

We have an 05 allroad and recently bought the Michelin Primacy mxv4. Very smmoth riding, very quiet, nice grant touring all season tire. Probaly last a long time.

We replaced Michelin Pilot Sport AS tires that lasted a little longer than the original Pirellis, and peformed a lot better in rain and light snow, but I think they're more performance oriented than the allroad needs.

Falken ZE 912, $126 a tire, if cost matters.

Yea or 512s if you can get them, thats if you wont encounter much snow. If snow, than Nokian WR G2's, hands down the best all season I've ever run, but overkill if no snow.

x2 and I think you can get them for less, at least you can for A6 fitment (235/45/17)

I had the Pilot Sport A/S for the first 20K miles I owned my allroad and thought I loved them. I had issues with the car 'hopping' or 'skipping' in corners on uneven pavement, but rationalized that as the tradeoff for the air suspension. I installed Pirelli PZeroNero M&S tires last summer (I had these on my previous A4, however, they didn't make an allroad size when I bought the car) and love them. The tendency of the back end to bounce around has disappeared and I still have a blast tossing the car into corners and attacking on/off ramps. I have posted a few times about this in the past, the tires are very different, the sidewall stifness on the Michelin vs. the Pirelli is incredible and you can really feel it in the car.
