Cigarette lighter not working

Hi, I have a '96 A4 2.8 Quattro and the cigarette lighter doesnt work. I think/hope its a fuse problem. has anyone had this happen? where is the fuse box? i looked all over and cant find anything. also, what type of fuse does it use?
if its not a fuse issue, what else could it be?
Thanks for your help

Re: Cigarette lighter not working

the fuse panel should be on the right side of the dash, open the door, and pry the panel off the side.

does the button stay inwhen u push it in on the lighter? i know the tabs on mine push out and it dosent liek staying in. i pryed them in (if u do this and your fuse isnt blown it prob will be after this) and it worked ok a few times but then went back to the way it was, now i have to hold it in lightly for a few seconds while it heats up then let it pop out.

to see if its the fuse or the tabs use somthing with an AC adapter, liek a radar detector or portable cd player, if it works then the fuse is fine

or just quit smoking, lol, thats what i did, getting a sinus infection helps alot too.

Check fuse #33 I *think*, just had to replace mine yesterday.

Blew my fuse on one occasion with my cell charger.

It's a 15 ohm fuse (blue). If you have a manual there is a chart showing you where the fuse for the lighter is. I actually took the fuse from the fog lights and used it as a replacement until I could hit up the local Autozone.

if you have power at fuse and not at the bottom of socket remove the ashtray and reconect plug to lighter and it does work with aux adapter
