Remote Start in a 2011 A6
Hi,
I'm Marco and I just bought a 2011 Audi A6 3.0 Supercharged model. From what the Audi dealer told me, Audi themselves will not put a remote start in any of their vehicles because of how intricate the electrical system is in their cars. Not sure if this is fact or not, so I figured I would ask the folks on the forum. So, in the meantime, what I have been doing is to go outside, and start the car. This was not a big deal until I discovered that even if the proximity key is nowhere near the car, anyone walking by can just get in it and drive away. I was shocked at this as I at the very least would have expected the car to stall as soon as someone without the key put their foot on the brake pedal. Not the case. Also, as some of you may be asking...why didn't you just lock the car? Well, I tried locking the car with the remote, but it wont lock with it running. So, after talking with the dealer about this, his suggested work around was to walk out and start the car, then as I open the door to get out, press the lock button on the door (which will lock all doors but the driver door), and then close the driver door and use the actual "key" to manually lock it. I just want to get some feed back on whether or not...a) Audi will not install a remote start in their cars, b) if in fact a person that does not have the proximity key on them can just drive away with the car while left running, and c)is the dealers solution, the only solution. So, just to be clear, I am NOT starting the car by putting the key in the ignition. Thanks for any feedback! Marco |
This is a C6 or a C7? My C7 turns off when the "key" is removed from the car.

Running a cold engine at idle is not very good for the car long term.

In a recent trip to Best Buy, I had a remote start put on my wife's Ford. When asked about my Audi, I was told that there was a new system that would allow remote start on Audi's but there would need to be a double bypass (versus the normal singlebypass) installed. His guess was the bypass units would run about $200 each, and this doesn't include the remote start and labor.
I'm not sure over $1k is a good investment on my end when my car is virtually garaged everywhere I go. He also told me that MB remote start is one of the easiest to do, and takes about 30 minutes. WTF |

I'm new to Audi's, so I'm not sure if it's a C6 or 7. I dont put the key in the ignition to start the car. I just push the "engine start" button to start it (as long as I have the key on my person). Then, I can walk back into the house, key and all, and it stays running.

My 2012 C7 does not shut off when I leave the car and go away. The engine keeps running although there is a warning on the DIS saying that it cannot detect a key in the car anymore.
Disabling engine stop when opening driver's door. Recode the Central Convenience module to STOP the engine from turning off when you get out, having moved the car. [Select] [46 - Central Conv.] [Coding - 07] [Long Coding Helper] Click on the red byte (below) and in the binary code you will see: 00000111 Change it to: 00001111 ie. with 1111 at the end not 111 Tab into the next bit box and you will see the code change to 0F (013F062220B90000832009042001040700000000000000000 00000000000 to 013B062220B90000832009042001040F000000000000000000 0000000000) [close the long code helper] [Do It!] |

Have you changed it with VCDS? Its supposed to. I found the coding to stop it from doing it, but keep forgetting to do it.
