hood will not open - need advice

Pulled the lever to open the hood, heard a strange noise like something popped, and hood did not release.
Now what?
Any advice on how to get the hood open so I can fix?
My guess is the nut of the cable came loose.

Any help appreciated.

It appears your email has changed.

Try pulling the cable from behind the handle. Use vice-grips if necessary to grip the cable. It is probably one of the clips that hold the cable against the lock carrier that runs across the front.

Reach through the grill upper part with a coat hanger to grab the cable and pull until it unlatches the hood.

#3. Remove the belly pan and use a 3' broomstick or similar tool to push the locks at each side of the radiator aside. They rotate when the cable is pulled and release the pins.

#4. Hope that number 1 or 2 worked.

Gonna take a look tonight

Been in Chicago this week on business and haven't had a chance to address the issue.
How are things in TN?
Passed thru your way 2 weeks ago on my way to Lexinton and Louisville.

Got it open

Thanks for everyone's help!
It was very hard to see, but I broke off the head of an old 2 iron and used the golf club shaft to get up in there.
There is a small plastic loop that keeps the cable up against the radiator that broke off. This is the culprit.
Going to see if the local audi dealer can order one for me.

If you click on the link provided by UrS4boy, it is item #25 in the illustration 4A0 823 570. www.genuinevwaudiparts.com is Miramar Audi in San Diego. They sell at a discount and the $1 part is 60¢. Hopefully Ellis will have it. I wouldn't suggest buying 2 clips for $1.20 online. You are going to replace both aren't you? They are the same age.

going to get 2ea

The clips are closed 360 degrees, so I need to thread the needle if you will. Therefore, I need to take off cable and pass thru each new clip.
My guess is the other plastic clip is weak as well, so will get 2ea.
Jim ellis sells these for $2.20. They are around the corner from me, so easier to just swing by and pick up. They have to order from warehouse of course. These certainly cant be a big seller.

Can't you do anything? : > ) No, they are not closed, they just look like it. Examine the clips closely and you will see that they open in the center and you can slide them on or off the cable. When they get weak and won't stay clipped in, you can slide a thin plastic piece in the center to help them stay in place.
