Cold weather woes

'01 A6 2.8 Quattro: Below zero this AM and hard to start. Car popped and bucked and I had to keep my foot on the gas for a few minutes before it ran normally. Had similar experience last year and replaced coolant temp sensor and that fixed it. Same problem again?

Then 10 miles later I smelled gas, pulled the engine cover and the high pressure hose going to the fuel rail was dripping. I shut it off to think about and after it dried off, I started it back up and no drip!~? So I think maybe the super cooled gas shrunk the o-ring enough to allow it to drip. Anyone experienced that?

Any insight is appreciated.
Steve

Time to change O-Ring and/or fuel line if it is pressure fitted.

"Cold" starts can be troublesome. Add some dry gas in winter to tank to remove any moisture.

Sounds like it could have been a frozen fuel return line too.. Keep the car above half a tank during extreme cold weather.
