Key fob distance.

All my other cars have allowed me to unlock, panic activate, etc. from the proverbial " mile away," but my 07 A8 needs me to be within 18 feet of the car to do the same tasks. My remote battery is new, so I'm wondering if this is an Audi thing, or something else?

18 feet would have been a stretch with my 05, more like 7-10.
Our 08 A6 would go much much further to about 30.
The D4 goes even further.

I suspect the power efficiency of the fob electronics was improved over time to allow that.

My 06 A8 is about half of Macy's parking lot (at least last night I tried). I unlocked the car for the kids to race to from being so cold.

Cheers,

Louis

Battery, fob or RFI problems...

I can sometimes do A8 from in the house out through the closed double pane kitchen window to the car 20+ feet away. Normal distance 20-30 feet. iPhone RFI mess anywhere near it and range drops way off. A fresh set of batteries seems to help too, before it tells you on the display they are headed south. An older fob that has been beaten up over the years (compared to an unused one for the same car) seems to deteriorate some, perhaps from a few hundred drops and other wear and tear?

Similar distance results w/ 2013 Q5, save for the deterioration over time that will be a TBD.

I almost have to be standing next to mine. The battery has been replaced. No change.

Same thing for me. I wonder where the fob antenna is located...

Antennae, plural.
Couldn't find the actual diagram quickly, but it is similar to this:

I believe those are all for the passive entry function. Unless all of the modules have the ability to receive a radio signal when I push the button on my fob?

I wonder if this will work for our D3's?

Looking at this thread, there was TSB 91-05-04

It was superseded by 91-08-151.
