Audi Fuel Additives (injector cleaners)
 

I live in the city and do a lot of short trips so I decided to use a bottle of Audi's fuel injector cleaner. When comparing the price online to my local dealer, I realized that there are two different products. My dealer sells: G001770A2. What I found online is: ZVW239003. The parts guy said that they were probably the same thing. The only info I found online is the quote below from "AudiForums". Anyone have any experience with this or recommend one over the other?

I use Amsoil PI fuel additive. Bottle about every 5K or so.

Most dealerships stock BG44K. I have found it works great. I once put a can in my daughters Audi without telling her and a week later she wanted to know what I had done to her car as it was running so much better.

The BG44K stuff is good, but only found at dealers that carry it. The ZVW239003 cleaner is most likely the old Techroline formula thats been around for ages and the G001770A2 is the current cleaner Audi uses for warranty work currently. The G17 is the only cleaner approved by Audi, but the other cleaners work fine.

At about 10.7k miles and just under 1 year, got an MIL on startup last week with rough idle (700 rpm or so and oscillating, instead of the usual 1200 rpm until warm). Light stayed on until I went in for service 3 days later (delayed by weekend, business trip). No obvious effect on highway and around town driving during that time. Dealer kept car for the day, got a MY12 Q5 loaner with 5.8k miles, felt a little zippier than mine.

Dealer checked with AoA Techs, who recommended two-step fix (at same time)...Diagnosis from instruments was simultaneous cyclinder misfire....So clean the injectors and use the "G" elixir. Dealer decided to do step 2 only, first.

Starting and running OK for 5 days now. They gave me another can of the "G" elixir for the next tank, which will probably be another 4 days from now.

Service department was very courteous. Told the SM that I'm familiar with this overall issue of "bad gas"/carbon buildup, per our wonderful forum, and that I hoped we were not heading down that road. As you might expect we discussed the "bad gas" possibilities, for which I said there's been nothing but Shell 93 in the tank. If I understood correctly SM said they don't have "the rail facility" to do a major clean-up. Also said they have not seen any 2.0's with the injector clog or carbon build up. Stay tuned.

Went to the dealer today and ask them if they sell the injector cleaners, instead they told me they offer the fuel system clean up service but not selling any injector fluids.

The guy even told me to feel free to use the aftermarket stuff.

I've been using Costco gas for the past 17k miles.

Any suggestions which one should I get?

Lots of choices. I've always used Techron and never had a fuel delivery issue on any car. Not to say that it won't happen.
