F189 is the Multifuction/Range Selector switch on the side of the transmission. ...
 

It is operated by the shift cable and sends the gear selection info to the TCU. Check the harness connector from the F189 for corrosion on the wire terminals or loose fitting terminals etc.
Usually, the F189 must be replaced in this situation.

Is it just me or is the error summary rather vague?
I'm too new to VAG to know the difference.

Correction: F189 is the tiptronic up/down shift switch in the gear shift mechanism...
 

not the multifunction range selection switch on the side of the transmission. Sorry for the screw up.

Is the F189 the circut board or something else?
