iPod w/ ICE>Link install.

First, get yourself an ipod. Second, order the ICE>link V1.1 for the Gen 3 iPod. There are several versions available for the earlier iPod's and mini's. The kit comes as shown.
The dock pad.

The modular link.

The specific converter for Audi and a long patch cable.

Ok, now you're ready. Car off, radio off. Find the CD Changer connector at the rear on the car. It's located on the left side of the trunk inside the tool kit panel. It should be wrapped in foam. You may have to dig for it, but it is there.

Next pull the rear trunk trim (7 or 8 screws iirc). Pull the side panel in the trunk, the floor cover and the forward left tie down (17mm bolt). That way you can plug in the ICE>link and route the cable under the floor cover.
Next pull the back seat. Just lift up on the front of it.

You can run the patch cable under the seat and along the right side trim. To pull the trim first remove the phillips head screw located at the rear of the trim. It's under the rear seat. Next pull the side trim up firmly(read HARD). It is held in by 3 metal clips. Once you pull them loose work the trim away from the side of the car. This is were you will run the cable. There are 3 more clips at the front. Pull hard again. At the front of the car remove the right kick panel. It is held in by 2 screws. One under the little cover and the other is visible at the top of the cover.

You can run the cable underneath it and under the glove box. There is a flap at the rear that you can stuff the cable under with the modular connector. The final section that needs to be plugged in is the dock. Run it inside the center console trim as so.

It won't interfere with the glove box. The hard mount consists of 2 peices and installs in 3 minutes. It comes w/ simple instruction to do it.(sorry no pics of it apart)

I may trim it later. Once everything is installed plug in your iPod.

Turn on the radio in CDC mode and hit the #1. You will see it load CD 1 and begin playing your iPod. To change songs simple hit the next track on the radio, to fast forward or rewind use the FF or RW buttons on the right side. The ICE>link turns your iPod in to a factory CD changer. When you select radio or tape the iPod pauses, shuts off and begins to charge. No need for a seperate charging unit, it's all in one. The link lists for $219, the hard mount is $29.95. Since I didn't had a CD changer to begin with and was wanting more music in the car, this was a no brainer for me It does not allow a CD changer to be hooked with it. But why would you want a CD changer when a 15GB iPod holds more than 2500 songs. Happy listening.

ICE>Link

amiro 06-01-2004 05:05 PM

How does the mount go on? Tape, or screwed?

Jakub101 06-01-2004 05:06 PM

Thank you so much Tanman! Now I just have to get one.

iammatt 06-01-2004 05:13 PM

word. i'm sold.

TANMAN 06-01-2004 05:23 PM

The mount actually wedges between the radio trim and the side trim. Really solid.

You can also rotate the iPod dock towards you or your passenger.

TANMAN 06-01-2004 05:24 PM

Yes, or you can use the tuner dial on the right to fast forward or rewind.

TANMAN 06-01-2004 05:24 PM

It's powered thru the CD changer plug by the car. The same way the home changer works.

m4t7h3w 06-01-2004 05:41 PM

so do you have to remove the radio?
