1998 Audi A4 1.8T FWD - Just Keeps Dying

Hi Guys. I have a 1999 1.8T FWD MANUAL. We cannot figure out the problem with the fuel supply. The car has had an UPSOLUTE chip soldered into the ECU 6 years ago and no problems for 2 years. The car has had 3 fuel pumps, 3 fuel filters, cleaned gas tank and the problem still persists. The car just dies when idling like the engine cannot get fuel. The first 2 times, the fuel pump was busted and so we replaced. Before putting the 3rd fuel pump, we cleaned the gas tank to make sure there were no sediments causing pump failure. After using the car for about 1 month, the car died again with the same problem. I am starting to think that the chip is causing this problem. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Any codes? If no, replace the ecu.

Do you use the OEM (Bosch) pump? or maybe after market parts. Is there PCV system OK?
How much pressure do you get when you had problem ? and diagnose code number like Pxxxx or audi/vw number? etc. x19

Try removing the return fuel line to the tank, under the fuel pump access cover, and extend it with a coupler/fuel hose to dump into a gas can. Now run your engine and watch for fuel flow. This should show you if there is enough pressure to bypass fuel at the regulator. I'd have the can higher than the fuel tank top, so if pressure was lost, you'd notice the fuel stopping suddenly.
