Torque Converter Clutch : Stuck OFF P0741

VAG-COM indicating 17125 - Torque Converter Clutch: Stuck OFF/ No power being transferred P0741 for my 2000 Audi A6 2.7T (85000 miles), under no warrenty. Changed transmission oil, air filter but still light is on. My mechanic is asking me to sell rather fix the car. Please tell me how much it cost, is it fixable? can I drive the car with this condition.

You need to replace the torque converter....and maybe your mechanic. ;-)

Instead of replacing TC..

And selling the car (assuming you still like it and want to keep 'er) search around for a wrecked Audi your model and year, and look into buying the tranny. You should get a good deal, and most often the wreck is the front end and was totaled because the airbags deployed. So assuming there is nothing wrong with tranny, this is a good option. Alot of times, when your tranny is opened and reapired, it never goes back together the way the Audi God's intended. And you will have nothing but probs down the road, anyone else have an opinion on this? You could also go steal another C5 and strip it for parts (but that's illegal and unethical, but tempting, but you might be doing someone a favor, now they can buy that new Q7 they want).

No need to open the tranny. This is simple torque converter replacment.

I would not swap my known good trans for a junkyard unit to avoid a torque converter swap. Besides, there can't be more than a few hundred dollars difference between the cost a new TC and a used trans with used TC.

How much is the labor to replace a TC?

boostbuddy 02-22-2008 06:24 AM

The glass is 1/2 full - why not use it as an "opportunity" to upgrade your TC...

Depemds on who does it. The job is involved. Remove trans, replace TC, reinstall trans.

DYI is free, but prices rise steeply from there. I'd imagine that it's a minimum of 10 hours.

4Driver4 02-22-2008 07:29 AM

Worth considering, depending on direction you want to go with the car and how long you'll keep it.
