Door won't open... anyone heard of this?
... and yes... I tried unlocking first. :) Left rear passenger door won't open from the inside. Child lock is off. Both rear windows won't open either (driver's side rear window lock off). Anyone with a similar experience? If the door opening problem is an electrical one I'd be surprised. Yet, I can't imagine it's a mechanical problem either.

Maybe the cable disconnected?
I had my door apart a while back and had to release a cable that attached the inside handle to the latching mechanism. Maybe it popped off or snapped? If you can open from the outside, try removing door cover and take a look around.
I can't explain the windows not operating unless the door cable took out an electrical connector. You'll be able to see this though too. |
Windows... Do the driver's door switches work?
If so, then it's something local to the passenger door switches/wiring. If not, then it could be the driver's door switch module (the switches are known to go bad) and may be purely coincidental with the door handle issue.

Does the door handle pull?
I had a door freeze shut in the winter once in my S4. The handle pulled like normal, but I had to push on the door really hard to get it to pop open.

I've had this happening intermittently on my right rear.....
passenger door for the last two years. Every time the car is in for service I have them look at the door and they say everything is in spec. Sometimes it will open about an inch and then the latch grabs, sometimes it won't open at all. Then a little later it will work fine. Unfortunately it's always worked when in the shop. The car is almost out of warranty so soon it's going to be my problem to figure out.
Good luck with yours. Jeff 2001 Avant |
Re: Door won't open... anyone heard of this?
I have the same problem (door wont open - windows work, knock on wood)on my 01 2.7T. I took my door panel off to find that the cable had snapped. I am calling a dealer in the morning to see what it costs to replace. Once I get it in hand, it will only take 5 min to replace. I tried to crimp mine together but it wouldn't hold.
