no 8th gear in dynamic mode c7 a6?

cruising at 85mph for extended period of time, it still not at 8th telling from the rpm. changing to automatic mode immediately shifts to 8th.

at what speed does the car go to 8th gear in dynamic mode?

On the BMW version of the ZF 8HP, the sport mode 7->8 shift doesn't happen until north of 100MPH.

Mine will eventually change to 8th gear in Dynamic/Sport modes around 60 to 65+ mph as long as I'm not accelerating/decelerating.

hmm.. maybe the transmission learned my spirited driving habits and is unwilling to shift for me?

Despite myths to the contrary, the transmission doesn't "learn" anything. There are various software algorithms that are employed based on your driving style but they are not remembered. It's possible there's something going on in the software - have you had the latest transmission update and adaptation done at the dealer?

the 15k service was done Oct last year. Not sure if the tranny update was included. I may need ask the dealer to find out. Do you have TSB # or specific version # for the update?

I believe it's: TSB-37-13-84

Here's one of the threads on the subject:

Are you sure you're in dynamic mode when this happens, or not in cruise control? I don't believe the A6 we had would shift into 8th in dynamic at any of the highway speeds I drove. And the S6 doesn't shift into 7th unless cruise control is on when in dynamic at any of the highway speeds I drive.

I'm positive.

Thanks snagitseven for the tsb number.

can more people chime in to confirm there is or there is no 8th gear in dynamic mode?

it is pretty easy to test.

80mph at 8th gear should have an rpm of less than 2k

80mph at 7th gear should have an rpm around 2.2k
