How does the water to air intercoolers work? (more inside)
In the winter, do you put anti-freeze so it doesnt freeze up? What about the summer? What do you do ? Just wondering

In the winter an antifreeze/water mix. Summer you can use less or no antifreeze.
Water is much more efficient at removing heat, but there is a fixed quantity of water in the system so you need a separate heat exchanger/radiator to remove the heat from the water. -Dave Pramanik |
2 types of air to water iirc. not sure of the names
1: (homemade)its just a regular container that surround the intercooler with a cap. you drop ice and water into it when you are at the track. this IC is NOT good for street use
2: radiator type IC. the IC has air actually passes through a rediator type device that has its own closed circuit fluid. the radiator has 2 cores. one inside the IC, and one at the front of the car to cool the liquid. |
basically the A/W IC either does or doesnt have a heat exchanger. it should be a closed system in
all cases. some do have provisions for a 'dry ice' box to drastically cool the water/coolant.

some dood around me with a 9 second lightning showed me his homemade a/w IC
dry ice box the size of 3 batteries.

the silverbullet ran air to water, theres a black avant around with AWE air to water ICs back from
when they made them too.

closed system, modded stock ICs with a 'water jacket' welded around them, completely enclosing them
with water. heat exchanger for the system mounted in front of the radiator.
