Battery Question
 

So here is a strange question. I just had my battery replaced at Sears. When I got back in my car, all the stored data had been saved. Radio presets, clock, service indicator, everything. How in the world did they manage this? Did I just get ripped off for a battery??

If I recall if you do the change fairly fast (within a minute or something) then the data isn't lost...

How much did you pay for yours? Do you know which you got? CCA and estimated life? I think I'm in need of one too and never thought of Sears... was going to do an Autozone or something but I'm not a huge fan of giving my business to those guys; they haven't been all that helpful to me in the past.

Good answers already posted. But to you main point, i presume you know how to find the battery, look, and see if its new, including looking at the in service stamps made to effect your warranty. Right?

If i'm fast i dont have difficulty. I also have a small battery with tow leads to keep 12V on the low drain circuits.

Yes, there are a number of ways to do this - I have a Jump N' Carry for jump starting cars, and it has a lighter adapter you can plug in for just this reason - similar to the one already shown.

Connecting the battery charger while replacing it will also ensure memory is not lost. You should check to see if the battery is in "new" condition in terms of overall and contacts etc.

With my Audis the 12V outlets are always live, so I can just plug in a memory saver battery, any 12V source.
With the BMW the outlet is dead unless the ignition is on, at least accessory. So I turn the key and change the battery. 2003M3. But with the newer BMWs, I understand the dealer has to reset the battery life function on the central computer…bleaggh!

Acarney....it is a new battery. I checked it out and they use a battery saver. It's an H7 Die Hard AGM from Sears. It was $206 installed. 990 CCA. They had one that was 20.00 less but wasn't AGM and was 800 CCA.

Wow. I think that battery is worth half my car :)
