SQ5 winter tires: Blizzak Lm-60 or DM-V1
 

I'm thorn between to Blizzak model to choose from for my upcoming SQ5. I live in eastern Canada if this helps.

I owned LM-60 tires on my GTIs. They were great performers. Tracking in snow was spectacular.

For a SQ5, should I still go for the LM-60 or the DM-V1 would be sufficient.

The price difference between the two tires is $90. (so a total difference of $360).

When I contacted TireRack they said the DM-V1's would be louder for road noise but I can't confirm that yet.

I went with the LM-60's and they are great...as you already know.

How about some Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV... ;)

I know that winter tires but.............

Any feedback on Pirelli Scorpions Ice and Snow ? Are they comparable to LM-60 ?

I have excellent experience with Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D and Michelin Latitude X-Ice

The DM-V1 should have better ice traction as they have the special compound for the first 60% or so of the tread.

The LM-60 will sacrifice a little ice traction, but will perform better on dry roads. They do not have the "special compound".

I have the DM-V1s on the Q5, the LM-60s on my R and Michelin Xi2s on my truck. They all work fairly well.

I ordered the DM-V1 for my SQ. I won't be using them much. I have not mounted them yet. Waiting in my wheels from Hartmann. Was not really concerned about the speed rating. They are winter tires and who really drive over a 100 mph here in the US for extended periods of time.

Here's what I mean:

"The first 55% of the Blizzak DM-V1 tread depth features the Multicell Z Compound while the remaining 45% features a standard winter tire compound. When the Blizzak DM-V1 is approximately 50 percent worn, a depth indicator molded into the tread design lets the driver know that the remaining tread is reaching the end of its ability to provide beneficial snow traction"

Our DM-V1s are on their 3rd winter this year and I expect they will have worn through the "Multicell Z Compound" by next spring (w/roughly 35,000kms on them). At that point, I guess we'll run them in the summer until they are further worn out as it would seem stupid to toss a tire that's only 55% worn.

We just installed the DM-V1 on our 2013 3.0 and had freezing fog in our area. My husband was able to test out the capability of the new tires and they handled the ice perfectly. And we have not noticed any road noise with these tires.
