Audi vs VW 2.0T FSI, what's the difference?

I have asked the dealer and other people/mechanics what is the difference in engines between a Audi A4 2.0T and VW Passat 2.0T and no one could give me an answer.

The only thing that i know from some of the research i have done is that Audi uses two side mounted intercoolers and VW just a single centermounted one. That is it.

I would really appreciate if someone here can shine some light on this issue.

Thanks!!

Longitudinal on A4, Transverse mounted on Passat

I don't have specifics, but in general most of the engine internals would be identical, but the peripherals (like intercooler) are more likely to differ because of the engine orientation.

ran the part numbers on the internals the other day.. all the same.

short early vin range with different pistons on the A4 vs the rest.. but now are all the same.

mscav is correct

the audi has the motor positioned for awd, while the vw has it for fwd.

Re: Audi vs VW 2.0T FSI, what's the difference?

You guys are correct. I've noticed a huge difference in performance though. My A4 2.0T is much faster and feels more powerful compared to my cousins passat 2.0T. The engines might be the same but how the power is transfered to the wheels is most important. Audis drivetrain must be better. The engine lay out helps also.
