How far can one drive with the gas gauge on empty?

I really do not enjoy filling up at the gas satation, so I do try to stretch the thing and make it run on fumes before I fill up again.

I know this is not really good for the gas pump inside the fuel tank and can also hurt the catalysts... but still, how far can I drive once the fuel light comes on?

Thanks,
Andres

I think reserve is 30 miles and depends on how you drive it

My trip computer indicates between 25 and 50 miles, depending on how I've been driving.

Mine does too... the question is actually

how far can I go when the trip computer is indicating 0 miles???

I think it comes on at 2 gallons remaining

how you drive it will determine your overall range.

You will finally come to a stop...

...2 miles from the nearest gas station.

When the trip computer says 10 miles, I get to the gas station. I ran dry once, so I don't push it.

For many, not far enough.

Re: about a block from the gas station....

I went about 40 miles with it reading zero....

by accident....

Had the tunes cranked and wasn't paying attention to the fuel annunciator.

Realized it just before an exit...

Put 19.26 gallons it.

Can't imagine it would have gone much further.

Don't worry, I don't cut it that close in the company jet! :-)
