Default Audi Torque Plate

I had a torque plate made up for the audi cylinder block so you can bore a block truly round under head bolt tension.
as well has use it to cut open head gaskets in overbored engines so as not to have head gaskets protruding into combustion area.

Default Nice but very thick.. we only used a 2" piece of steel spacers and ARP head bolts.. why so thick

Looks like it is abt 4-5 " ..some adv. in that that I dont know about or did you not want to use machined spacers so bolts would torque correctly?. Did you also align bore the mains? That was a bit trickier.

Unless those are 10" bores doesn't look 4-5" thick to me. Maybe my old man eyes tho ..

Default Just looked thicker than one we made! thought later was bcause he wanted 2 do w/o bolt spacers

Cant blame it on my 50yr old eyes tho, had lens implants last yr and went from 20-400 to 20-15.

Ours is 3-4" IIRC... more mass = less vibration when machining = better results.

Default Makes sense, but any torque plate, even 1" is better than none.

The Audis used to be notorious for having ovaled bores, even with the nicasil materials. We only used 2" steel and got very nice results. Too bad there is not a similar fix for align boring the mains and cam bearings.
