Default Audi A4 2.8 12v Quattro Performance Upgrades?

I drive a 1996 Audi A4 2.8 12v and Im looking to go all performance on this car. I was wondering what performance mods are out as far as 12v goes. I see there is a supercharger but only for the 30v seems 12v gets dicked over in any case I also called up for a custom turbo and they stated around 5 grand for it. But i wanted to check out all the options i have and need help modding my 2.8 12v Performance wise. BTW its a Quattro.

Default My opinion,...

I've driven one, but the car cannot be worthwhile to modify for more power. It would cost too much for too little. It's the breathing in the car that suffers due to the 2 valves per cylinder. And the forced induction (only way to get serious power besides displacement) will exploit that weakness. I don't want to know the result. And I don't know how the internals will hold if you want serious power. I'm sure there are chips, exhaust, filter, etc. available. But I would just get a different car to start working on. Performance is costly,... and when you get a quote,... be ready to spend twice that amount worse comes to worse. I assume it will have to be custom. Anything, and everything, usually goes wrong = + labour, + parts, & + downtime,...

Good luck either way!

Default They have this nice twin turbo setup

when you buy a B5 S4. ;-)
If you want to mod, find something else. Not a great motor to start off with, but why not be innovative and throw in a small block 350 and mate it up to the AWD system?

Take 1

Default Even if there is a chip,...

I was stupid and spent the money on chipping the A8. There is no noticeable gain on the car. I didn't feel the difference and I'm starting out with 300hp. I have other friends that chip their NA cars and they just don't seem to notice anything if that's the only mod you'll do. Even if they have a chip for the 12v, SAVE THE MONEY! Or ask if you can try before you buy,...

I found this for you
seems like you could have a pretty bad *** car in about 10 hours and 5 grand later

http://www.eiptuning.com/eip03webfolder/vwa2a3stage1vr6turbo.html</a

The VW 12V is not anything like the Audi 12V. This would not work.

Default Basically, you can go up to about 230-240 N/A hp on the 12v ECU . . .

However, it can get expensive if you pay top dollar for everything.

Before you do anything, go to the 12v performance forum and see what we have done there.

Basically you can do the following--starting from the air inlet and ending with the exhaust:
1. Ram-air intake;
2. High flow filter;
3. MAF velocity stack in place of MAF screen;
4. Bored MAF;
5. Silicone tube in place of rubber accordion tube;
6. Replace Plenum with silicone tubes;
7. ported/shaped/polished throttle body;
8. ported intake manifold;
9. ported or big valve heads;
10. headers;
11. high flow cats;
12. high flow mufflers and/or complete exhaust system.

Do not forget an extra 10hp with an EFK.

Have fun.

12v Forum

Older 2v heads with not as good port geometry can put out 300hp out of 2.2L, a good hybrid turbo, and an EFI system...

The 12v heads are better, not only because they are cross-flow (unlike the old heads), but have revised geometry WRT the old 10v/10vt heads.

Rob K was making 400hp or something like that with his 12vt motor, and TEC-2.
