tell him to look for maintence/problem wise. Yes, I know this is an Audi forum. But I also know many of you also own or have owned BMW's.

Thanks for your help!

Default What vintage? For the first year or so, the 5 series only had a 3 star crash rating. BMW

went back to the drawing board and came up with a number of fixes to enhance overall safety. I think it's 4 stars now. In any case, steer clear of the first year.

Default I'd tell him bro no one's going to give you props for driving a 5 series

So just save money, increase peace of mind by getting your self a nice Toyota SUV that'll last you for a good long reliable time.

More space. Much better value. Same commuter car.

Default I have had severaql of these and they are great cars but......

they are expensive on repairs. Probably not much more than the Audi.

The E39 530 is a great car. Go to roadfly (dot) com and there is a very active forum with tons of info.

Get the car inspected before purchase by a BMW specialist. Better to spend the money upfront and know what you are facing than finding out later, like I did on my current 540.
