Help me find a new 40-42 inch LCD/Plasma
<center><img src="http://images45.fotki.com/v1450/photos/1/194554/6988344/IMG_0679-vi.jpg"></center><p>Here are my guidelines:
1) Must be a high gloss ebony finish
2) Total overall width (including frame) must be as close to 40 inches as possible, without being over 40 inches.
3) Don't want a VIZIO
The set I really like is the Samsung LN40A550. Best deal I found through google is around $885 shipped through a reliable vendor.
I am going to be replacing my 3 year old Sony WEGA HD set. The picture is truly just about perfect (looks incredible with blu-ray or hd signals), I just want a black frame/casing. The silver casing on the Sony is,, well,,, dated.
Here is a picture of it. The built in cabinet in my living room is EXACTLY 40 inches wide, which is why I want my new tv to fit as close as possible...<ul><li><a href="http://www.crutchfield.com/p_305LN40550/Samsung-LN40A550.html?search=samsung+40&tp=161">http://www.crutchfield.com/p_305LN40550/Samsung-LN40A550.html?search=samsung+40&tp=161</a</li></ul>

We bought one of these last month.
I don't know what's up with the picture amazon uses, ours has a glossy black finish.
I love it.<ul><li><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravia-KDL-40W4100-40-Inch-1080p/dp/B0017Q8B66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=12341 46630&sr=1-1">link to amazon</a></li></ul>

I bought a Toshiba Regza LCD when I had a space problem a year ago. You could get a 42 incher
that is 39.8 inches wide.
I do get compliments on the picture but remember the TV is located in a poor, rural county where people live simple lives.
After I used my measuring tape filter on other LCD TVs the picture was the best at Video Only a year or so ago. As I recall I only had three choices back then.
You will have 10 percent more display area with a 42 incher verses a 40 incher....choose wisely.<ul><li><a href="http://tacp.toshiba.com/televisions/lcd/product.asp?model=42xv545u">42 inch Toshiba</a></li></ul>

I have the same Sony Wega TV, only 27-inch. But latest CR ratings (March '09)...
are as follows (in order from high to low):
LCDs
40-42 inch
* Samsung LN40A630
* Sony Bravia KDL-40XXBR7
* Samsung LN40A550
* Hitachi Director's Series UT42X902 (Monitor)
37-inch
* Panasonic TC-37LZ800
* Hitachi UltraVision UT37V702 (Monitor)
* Panasonic TC-37LZ85
* Sony Bravia KDL-37XBR6
Plasmas - none listed in either 40-inch or 37-inch sizes. Start at 42-inches.
I also own a 32-inch (LCD) Sony Bravia KDL V32XBR1, which is very good (has black surround frame).

Thanks! That toshiba looks great. For the $$,,, it looks like it's between the Toshiba and Sammy
I can get the Toshiba 42XV545U for $999 and the Samsung LN40A550 for $885.
I'm leaning toward the Samsung.
