    As for owning and maintaning a german car in Australia it is extra than what it would cost in the States or Europe because of the rediculous import taxes. That reminds me that the luxury car tax will increase to an additional 8% on a car over 57 thousand bucks.

    I think wallaby made the right recommendation for a new A3 2.0 or even a 1.9 TDI since petrol is around $6/gallon.

    You may even opt for a second hand A3 since some are quite cheap and parts are readily available for a good price if you shop around.
