Default How much should replacing a watch battery cost?

Called up Bailey, Banks and Biddle from someone's advice here, and they quoted me at $45, and also mentioned that they "seal the gasket" to make sure it's still waterproof. Does this sound right?

Default Depends on the watch...

A fossil watch...$5-10. A swiss watch...generally, yes, a jeweler will replace the seals while they are in there, and they'll get you for $50-70 for the "service".

Default BULL-SH*T

Watch batteries and replacement are the #1 markup item for a jeweler. (my dad was one, so I should know).

They're just BS'ing you about the gasket, etc. A battery is pennies wholesale. The biggest issue is knowing the type of back you watch has and if you need any tools to get it off.

Go to a local small jeweler. The mall stores will rip your a*s off.

Default No way, I had an Eco-drive. It lasted three years and died

It lost the ability to hold a charge and was going to cost more then a battery to fix.
