Weekend Storm Update
Not looking so good for you snow lovers. Each run of the model brings the storm closer to the coast which means more rain than snow. I think in NYC it starts as snow, rains a while, then ends as wrap-around snow. The further north and west you go, the more snow. The further south and east you go, the more rain. Below are the GFS and NAM snow maps for mid-day Monday. Accumulation ideas tomorrow.

ricer snowblower FTW!
Buy one, and it will last you 15 years or more. 1st time you use it, you'll wonder WTF you shoveled snow for all those years!
For anything under a foot, the one below is great! For heavy stuff, it'll bog down somewhere under 6" depending on how heavy. For blizzards (over 12"), you'll have to get out there every few hours and make a pass to keep up, and when it's over, you'll be taking child size bites off the snow drifts, but it still beats breaking the back with a shovel.
Oh, and believe it or not, this Honda engine actually has torque!

http://www.hondapowerequipment.com/snolig.asp</a

2 stage is definitely better, however...
the single stage is much easier to handle on smaller driveways. It's lighter weight and manueverability are terrific. Another side benefit to the single stage is it cleans right down to the pavement since the rubber "blade" makes contact with the ground to propel the blower. Dual stages leave a thin layer behind which means I need to salt or I'll have a sheet of ice the next morning.
I wasn't sure I would be happy with it, and I've been thrilled! Takes up less space in the garage as well. I would only trade up to a 2 stage blower if I had a larger driveway and needed to throw the snow further or wanted something capable of dealing with 1 foot+ snowfalls regularly (or a lot of heavy snow regularly). No doubt, the 2 stage is a "real" blower, but a single stage is surprisingly useful, provided you've purchased one with decent torque.
