I've been wanting to get my wife an avant for a couple of years now, but .....
she says that it's a station wagon and station wagons are for little old ladies. She, my wife, just doesn't comprehend the "cool" or versatility factor.

mine was the same way
Because she had a matador back in high school and it was terrible and she hated wagons but she's not a car person. Anyway, I ended up getting one for myself and then she stole it. All the Moms that she hangs with drive suv's and minivans and all of them commented on her then b7 avant as being cool. When we went to replace it, all she wanted to look at were more wagons and she also has gotten used to the niceties of Audi because volvos and subarus didn't appeal to her too much.
