Default Well, no Audi, but I am back in the VAG fold.

Needed a commuter car so I picked up a 2008 VW GTI today--a United Gray Metallic base model with only DSG and sunroof as options.

The DSG will be an interesting experiment for me. I went back and forth on it, but finally decided that there was too much stop and go on my commute for me to go with the manual trans. I must be getting old.

I was looking at used A4s, but VW's current lease program made the GTI too attractive to pass up.

I guess I'll have to go hang out at VW Vortex now.

Default Good choice.

Mine is a 2007 4dr GTi, United Grey, DSG - no other options. It makes a fine commuter.

If you're going to lower it, then look into Koni FSD shocks w/ either Neuspeed, H&R, or Eibach springs. The ride, for the most part, will actually be more compliant, short of the occasional sharp jolt from expansion joints or rough roads.

Also, try the free trial Revo ECU flash. Terry at Griffin Motorwerke did mine - it's night and day. You'll get wheel spin in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. Traction is severely limited. But on the freeway, from about 70 to 110 mph, the little GTi becomes a beast.

Congrats on your choice.

Default Thanks for the upgrade tips.

I'm going to try and control myself for a while before going down that slippery slope. We'll see how long my resolve lasts.

Default Good decision. DSG is something I've been thinking about, too...I don't blame you.

My commuter is a 1.8T Passat. I did some mods to it to make it more enjoyable to drive like upgrade wheels, springs/shocks and sways.

If I may ask, did you have to come up w/ $$$$ down on the lease?

The only out of pocket at lease inception was about $225 for DMV fees.
