Default made some calls -- here's what i found:

carlsen: $125, 3-4 days to get it
stevens creek: $172 (!), in stock
rector: $112, in stock

an impressive price spread to say the least. as a baseline, genuinevwaudiparts.com (which usually has the lowest prices online) has it for $99 (but of course they can't ship it). so the rector price is actually pretty damned good.

I like the Rector parts counter. Does the older gentleman with the handlebar moustache and driving cap still work at the parts counter?

From my experience they have the best "local" prices from a dealer.

Default Funny... I called around for a CV boot kit recently.

List price: $28 and change.

Royal Motors: $38 and change. In stock.

Team VW in Daly City: $31 and change. Was in stock. Then sold.

Rector: $48 (!) In stock.

Boardwalk VW: $35. In stock.

Carlsen: "uh, list price is $28 but I don't have one."

The online places have it for about $19+ for OEM. A bit less for decent aftermarket.

I assume you have your reasons for wanting the OEM battery. From your prior posts, I gather that you're particular about your cars (that's a compliment) so won't try to suggest something else. Good luck.

Default well, at least the carlsen answer seems consistent ;-)

in general, i buy my parts online, but obviously that's not gonna fly for a battery. anyway, interesting.

(yes, i wanted the oem battery because i've had both reliability and fitment issues with e.g. optima.)

Did you check VW? Hayward VW always had lower prices for me compared to Fremont or SJ
