There's some ignernt peeps here.
Cali has something for everyone. Just don't get snooty by putting other parts of the state down because you don't live there.
I'd never live in the bay area. Too expensive, too much traffic, too plastic: every store is the same as teh next.
Your restaurants are over rated.
PSA for you: Your water comes from here, so does your food, plus you are kind enough to export your smog here too.

No, it's ignorance. Just be honest about it.
There's things I'd never put up with in the bay area, and there are things I don't like here...
But this thread so far has simply shown people's stereotypes.
Nuff said.

lived in both. i prefer the bay.
haven't lived out there extensively, but a couple weeks at a time. it's quite, relaxing, but litereally nothing to do. hot as hell during the day and super windy/dusty at night if you're on the wrong side of the freeway. your dinner choices if you don't choose to cook are limited to fast food chains or the chinese buffet (which is not bad).
however...it's close to the mountains, yosemite, the delta and there's more then enough rolling hills to cycle through.
it's not worse, or better, it's just different. different strokes for different folks. i just prefer the bay, my preference...it seems most people do as well.

I lived in both too. S.F. for a while
Not really sure where the central valley (east) begins? Pleasanton? Livermore? Tracy? Manteca?
It's all running together. There are parts of Manteca that look just like Livermore. Downtown Stockton with the arena is very nice. Davis has the Mondavi center, Modesto has the Gallo Center.
The food in Modesto isn't fast food, and it isn't Chinese takeout/Pizza Hut. I'd suggest you travel a bit outside your comfort zone.
There are parts of S.F. that hardly warm up, you'll get a beat-down for whatever reason and you'll spend half your life in a traffic jam.
Different strokes is true. But I'd rather have lower cost of living, have the cars I want, money in the bank and a big house with a yard/pool and a three car garage. Yeah, so I suck. I always go to the city to get my fill.
And from the latest demographic information, I'm not the only one who thinks this way.
