I was a licensed real estate appraiser in CT for years. You're always better off with a contractor.

Default Contractors are great in their specific areas of expertise... Not saying they can't do a good

inspection, but with the right recommendations you can find somebody that knows what to look for and are trained to do, ala a building inspector.

completely did an 1880's victorian. It was a laborof love prior to affording others to do it for me

He was a 75yo doctor driving a 20yo Buick Roadmaster wagon - garage just wasn't happening ;-(

During the boom, we did just that, bought and sold. I'm a licensed builder and licensed broker. Fun stuff... most of the time. We stopped in 2005... saw what was coming... thank god.

Have someone you know come and look at the house. Talk about what your expectations are for the final result. Ask your friend to give you a real price... not the buddy deal.... then double it.

Default If your on the Northshore, I know of a home inspector who's also a....

General contractor and building inspector. The best of all the trades.

Default Been there...dream house...mix of doing work ourselves and using contractors....
